Allerheiligen has been selected to the Southern
Bowling Congress Hall of Fame for his
Meritorious Service to our organization.
SBC Service
Jim attended his first SBC meeting on March 8,
1982 and has been a regular participant at the
annual meetings and tournaments since that time.
He was a delegate from the Okaloosa County
Bowling Association, Florida from 1982 until
1985 and served as a Director representing
Florida from 1985 until 1997 at which time he
was selected to be a Life Member. he
became the 8th Vice President in 1999, then
moving through the VP ranks until he became the
President of the SBC during the 2006-2007
season.
He has been the Chairman or Co-Chairman of the
Scholarship Committee for eight years and has
chaired the Finance and Budget Committee,
Legislative Committee (3 times), Tournament
Promotion Committee, Nominating Committee and
Hall of Fame Committee.
Local Involvement
Mr. Allerheiligen has proven himself as a leader
at the local level by serving as a Director from
1981-1986 and Vice President from 1986-1991.
Under his leadership as originator, the
Scholarship program was instituted in 1990.
Then In 1991, the association needed a Treasurer
and Jim volunteered, forgoing the opportunity to
be the association President. He served as
Treasurer until 2002 and then became the
Association Secretary. After the merger of
the Emerald Coast USBC Association in 2006, he
became the Association Manager and has been the
Tournament Manager of every tournament since.
He is a member of the Okaloosa County Bowling
Association Hall of Fame, elected in 1995, as
well as a Life Member.
State Participation
Jim's dedication to the sport of bowling extends
beyond the local level. The Northwest
Florida Bowling Association is comprised of five
associations in the Florida panhandle from
Tallahassee to Pensacola. He served as
Director from 1983-1988, then President from
1988-1989, and then as Director again from
1989-1992. He then became the State
Secretary-Treasurer in 1992 and still serves in
that capacity. Jim participated in his
25th consecutive national tournament in
Albuquerque in 2009.
Military Service
His served our nation in the U.S. Air Force for
20+ years until retiring in 1986 with the rank
of Lt. Colonel.
He was severely wounded in a mortar attack at
his forward base in Vietnam. After
evacuation to Saigon, then to Manila and finally
to San Antonio, he spent over a year in recovery
from a multiple fracture of the skull. He
fought two battles that year, recovery to allow
him to communicate with his family, friends and
co-workers was #1. Successfully passing
six medical review boards to remain on active
duty was #2. To this day you can still see
the results of that horrific injury in
occasional speech difficulty.
Various assignments resulted in a variety of
bowling activities. While in Taipei and
Taiwan, he bowled in three leagues and served on
the Navy recreation Board. In Germany, he
bowled in a traveling league against the host
country bowlers in their centers and travel to
several FIQ events. He was instrumental in
organizing the Hessiscih Oldendiorf Bowling
Association in northern Germany.
At Minot, North Dakota, he bowled both on and
off base and was a member of the Minot Bowling
Association Board of Directors. It was
there that he became an active youth coach and
was also a member of the Minot YABA Board of
Directors. In Iceland, he bowled in and
worked with the bowling program in Keflavik.
He finished his tour of duty in Florida and
continued his involvement in bowling there.
He and his wife, Carol, have been married for
over 40 years and have two grown sons.
They live in Ft. Walton Beach, Florida.
The Southern Bowling Congress is indeed lucky to
have someone of Jim's experience and dedication.
There is no better person to represent our
organization and his induction to our Hall of
Fame is an outstanding addition.
Congratulations, Jim! |
